They are a representative public sample rather than a complete record of my work.

Much of my work is commercially sensitive, and some recent projects cannot be shown publicly at all. Producing a useful spread of problem types, sectors and delivery styles therefore means drawing examples from across a wider period.

Where relevant, I may also be able to share anonymised examples or discuss comparable work without disclosing confidential client or project information.

Most of my experience is in bespoke, one-off and low-volume industrial equipment, mechanical systems and engineered products where the work calls for engineering judgement, not simply CAD production.

Typical examples include machinery and mechanisms, welded fabrications, structural steelwork, handling and lifting equipment, access equipment, industrial plant, mechanical assemblies and special-purpose machinery.

My background is weighted towards bespoke and low-volume work rather than mass-produced products, but the underlying design methods and engineering judgement can transfer to higher-volume applications where the problem and required outputs are a good fit.

Industries differ, but many of the engineering challenges repeat: defining requirements, developing workable concepts, resolving geometry and interfaces, assessing loads and stresses, simplifying manufacture, and producing clear information for fabrication or assembly.

Where a problem is fundamentally mechanical and can be worked through from first principles, I can often help even if the product or sector is less familiar. In some cases, that outside perspective is useful in its own right, particularly where a fresh view can improve problem framing, challenge embedded assumptions or uncover better design routes.

Where specialist regulatory, scientific or sector knowledge is central to the commission, I will identify that early and recommend appropriate specialist input rather than overstate my own fit.

Yes, where a reference is proportionate to the opportunity and the previous client has agreed to be contacted.

For an initial enquiry, the case studies, relevant anonymised examples and an early technical discussion will usually provide a more practical way to assess fit.

For substantial commissions, formal procurement exercises or later-stage due diligence, suitable client or trade references can be discussed as part of the engagement process.

Not in an identifying way unless that has been agreed.

Enquiries and confidential project information are treated accordingly, and I would not publish material that links a client with commercially sensitive work without permission.

I may occasionally use anonymised, redacted or high-level examples that do not identify the client, project, application or sensitive technical details. Any separate NDA or agreed confidentiality restriction takes precedence.

Where complete non-reference is required, including no mention of the client relationship, that can be agreed before work begins.

Frugal is a sole-principal consultancy, and I personally undertake and control the engineering work as a Chartered Mechanical Engineer.

This provides direct continuity from the initial discussion and problem definition through to the calculations, models, drawings and final recommendations. You are not handed between sales staff, project managers and junior delivery teams.

Specialist advice, independent checking or limited external support may occasionally be used where the project warrants it. Where relevant, that requirement will be discussed openly and the contribution will remain under my direct management.
